Techniques: SMILE Pro, LASEK and PRK
At Opticorp we work with different refractive surgery techniques according to your eye characteristics and lifestyle. We offer SMILE Pro, LASEK and PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), so your surgery is tailored to what best suits your case.
SMILE Pro
SMILE Pro (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive technique without creating a corneal flap. The femtosecond laser creates a lenticule inside the cornea that is removed through a very small micro-incision. It offers fast recovery, less dry eye and is ideal for myopia and astigmatism.
LASEK
In LASEK a very thin layer of the epithelium is lifted with diluted alcohol, the laser is applied to correct the prescription, and then that epithelium is repositioned. It is suitable when the cornea is thinner or when surface techniques without flap are preferred.
PRK
In PRK the epithelium is removed from the corneal surface and the laser is applied directly to the corneal tissue. No flap is created, making it a solid alternative for thin corneas, moderate myopia or astigmatism, and for people at higher risk of trauma (contact sports, certain professions).
Frequently Asked Questions about Refractive Surgery
No, the procedure is performed with topical anesthesia (drops) and is virtually painless. You may feel slight pressure during the procedure, but no pain.
Most patients can resume normal activities the next day. Vision improves significantly within the first 24-48 hours.
Yes, the correction is permanent. However, the surgery does not prevent natural age-related changes in the eye, such as presbyopia after 40.
Many people with stable myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia may be candidates. In the evaluation we assess your case and recommend whether SMILE Pro, LASEK or PRK is best for you.
